Accepting Card Payments via the Capitan Staff Site
Capitan now offers you the ability to accept card payments via the Capitan Staff Site to speed up the front desk process.
To begin, you will need to configure your card readers with your Capitan account. To configure your readers, follow these steps:
Note: At this time, only organizations in the US using Stripe may accept payments directly via the Staff Site. Future updates are coming for organizations using Stripe in the UK and Australia and for organizations in the US using Gravity Payments.
Accepting Card-Present Payments on the Capitan Staff Site
After setting up your card readers, you will have two options when collecting payment on Capitan via the Staff Site:
- Continue to Payment (Card Reader) - Use this option to swipe, tap or insert a card for payment
- Continue to Payment (Manual Card Entry) - Use this option to manually enter payment details (useful for someone making a purchase over the phone).
When you select Continue to Payment (Card Reader), follow these steps:
- Select card reader for payment from the readers configured to your location.
- Once selected, the payment will be sent to the card reader selected for the customer to tap, insert or swipe to pay.
- If payment is successful, the Capitan site will display a confirmation. If the payment fails, a failure message will display in Capitan. Select the Retry button to have the customer try their card again.
- For recurring memberships, the card will automatically be saved to the Customer's profile and billed in the future. The customer can always log into Capitan to update their payment method.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need to use Square/Vend/Lightspeed?
Yes, we recommend continuing to harness your existing Retail POS for retail and inventory management. Capitan's integration with card readers is meant to speed up transactions of only Capitan products and make it easier to sell recurring memberships and group memberships, which cannot be sold via a Retail POS integration.
Can I still sell Capitan products on Square/Vent/Lightspeed?
Yes! To allow a customer to purchase a Capitan product and a retail product in a single transaction (for example, a 10-Entry Pass and Chalk Bag) Capitan products can still be sold via Square/Vend/Lightspeed.
