Capitan Release Notes - November 5, 2025
Gift cards can now be sold in the Gift Center.
When enabled, customers may now purchase gift cards through your organization's Gift Center. Purchased cards will still be managed by your connected retail platform, but like always can be used directly on Capitan for purchases as well.
Lightspeed Users
In order to sell gift cards in the Climber App, gift cards must be enabled in your Lightspeed account. Gift cards can be enabled or disabled in the Lightspeed web app by navigating to "Products" → "Gift cards". You will need to ensure the minimum/maximum gift card amounts align with your Lightspeed configuration as well.
Once turned on, customers will be able to purchase a gift card directly in the Gift Center. This will appear in the Gift Log along with revenue reports on Capitan. Please note, for accounting purposes, gift cards will need to be mapped to the appropriate revenue account in your Accounting Configuration.
The gift card will be generated in Lightspeed, so any modifications regarding the gift card after the purchase can be made directly in the Lightspeed web app.
Square Users
If your organization uses Square, when the option to purchase a gift card in the Gift Center is enabled, you will be prompted to enter your organization's Square Ecommerce Gift Card Purchase URL The button to purchase a gift card in the Climber App Gift Center will bring the customer to the Square online gift card purchase page to complete the purchase.
Gifts can now be delivered via a printable PDF
For customers that want to physically hand a gift recipient something when giving a gift, there is a new option for customers when purchasing a gift for delivery method: Email or Print.
In order to enable the PDF print option, navigate to Print Options in your Gift Center's settings. Once enabled, you can add a logo and different banner options (for example, Happy Birthday or Happy Holidays) to allow the purchasing customer to customize the gift for the recipient.
When a customer chooses "Print" for the gift's delivery method, they will not be able to schedule the gift be delivered via email.
After completing the purchase, there will be a link to download the PDF so it can be printed. Staff can also access this PDF in the Gift Log.
Event discounts based on event start date
To support policies such as early bird discounts and pro-rating an event's fees once the event has begun, event discounts now have a new "Days Until Event Start" field. If configured, this discount may only be used in the provided range of days before the event start. Negative values may be used to offer discounts after the event has started, for cases such as pro-rating an in-progress multi-week course.
Discounts based on a customer's age
To simplify offerings on Capitan, there is a new option to create a discount based on the customer's age. If configured, this discount may only be used for customers who fall in the provided age range at the time of payment. For example, if a day pass is $25 but you have a youth pass for $20, you can now create an automatic discount to be applied to the pass if the entry pass recipient is under your configured age.
Discounts based on the minimum number of days without a membership
To give organizations a new tool to reactivate customers that had a prior membership, there is a new discount option: "minimum number of days without a membership". If configured, this discount may only be used for customers who do not have an active or frozen membership and who have not had one within the provided number of days.
Enhanced event cancellation policy options
To provide more flexibility in how you handle automated cancellations and refunds, there are new options when configuring an Event Type's cancellation policies. Organizations can now be more granular with which fees are refunded (for example, a per-booking deposit fee may be considered non-refundable while the per-participant fees are refundable). An organization now can also opt to have the fees refunded as account credit.
